Book Teaser: The Jester's Grin

The Crowned and the Chaotic: An early teaser for The Jester’s Grin the first book in The Cloud City Chronicles

The world of Rackmoure is dying; not in a blaze of glory, but a slow, greedy demise orchestrated by the corrupt nobles of the Solarium.

For millennia, King Juy'Mond has stood as the last bulwark against the darkness constantly seeping from the North. But when a magical "Key to the Sky" appears, it promises to banish the Shadows at the cost of the hero’s life. The king realizes his final act of duty will be instantly undone by his power-hungry court.

His solution? To run away.

The Perfect Anti-Hero

Disguised as a common traveler and accompanied by his two most loyal guards, the ancient High Elf King flees his throne to pursue his own, quiet doom. His lonely, sacrificial mission, however, is derailed in a gritty coastal tavern by a half-breed revolutionary with a wit sharper than her boot knives.

Meet Amryethiel Ryundal.

Amry is a poet, a singer, and by necessity a fighter and a rogue captain. When she overhears the King’s plan for martyrdom she agrees to captain his passage South, not for gold, but for the chance to give the weary monarch’s tale a better end. She hates bad stories.

"You’re the king, Juy. You don’t get to check out early just because you’re bored."

A King on the Ropes

Aboard Amry’s fast, black-hulled sloop, The Jester’s Grin, the ultimate journey begins.

Juy'Mond, the King of an entire realm, is immediately put on rope-coiling duty by the fiery, new Captain. But as the ships of the treacherous Duke close in, the King finds that Amry's chaotic new perspective might be the only thing that can save him from treachery and from himself.

This book is a high-stakes adventure set in a fantasy realm of action and intrigue with mythical creatures and magic.

The exhausted King is ready to die a martyr; Amry might just teach him how to live like a King.
